By developing the manufacturing process that reduces the cost of solar panels, we move beyond generating electricity for computers and electronic transactions, and we provide light sources to the poorest people, replacing kerosene lamps, which cause deaths and illness.

The Future is in Your Hands

"I taught engineering at Colorado State for 28 years, and have made a gift to the College of Engineering for almost every one of those years, so I take the long view. Here’s why I think this College is a good investment.

"First, a gift to the College enables us to produce a steady stream of expert engineers who will help solve the increasingly serious national and international problems that affect everyone. If you want to do something about new sources of energy, better use of water or other challenges, the best thing you can do is educate smart people who will find solutions to those problems.

"If you want to help maintain our high quality of life in Colorado, a gift to the College produces hard-working people who strengthen our communities. These men and women comprise a high quality work force that lures good employers to our state. Engineering graduates also start companies of their own and provide jobs for others.

"Finally, engineering provides one of the surest paths to the American Dream. I was the first person in my family to go to college, and every year I taught at Colorado State I had people in my classrooms who were the first in their families to attain higher education. Seeing them succeed and thrive continues to be one of the more enjoyable aspects of my years as a professor."
